IONO Robotics introduced humanoid working robot with integrated drone inside the head
Linz, May 27, 2026 – IONO Robotics is Austria’s first company focused on humanoid robotics for real working environments. Yesterday, the Linz-based company publicly presented its humanoid robot “WORKMATE” for the first time at the Tabakfabrik Linz during its Product Launch Event. The company showcased its vision for secure humanoid robotics and demonstrated the system live in front of industry partners, investors, media representatives and guests from business and technology.
WORKMATE was developed for real working environments – not for pure showcases or laboratory conditions. The humanoid robot is designed to support repetitive, physically demanding and simple tasks across industry, logistics, retail and service environments.
One of the highlights of the presentation was a globally unique concept: an integrated drone located directly inside the humanoid robot’s head, capable of launching directly from the robot system itself. This allows WORKMATE to inspect, monitor and capture environments from the air when required. The modular multi-head concept also enables future extensions such as additional sensors or robotic tools integrated directly into the head system.
Alongside the hardware platform, IONO Robotics also introduced “IONOSPHERE” – a closed ecosystem consisting of robot AI, control systems, server infrastructure and software tools. The platform focuses on maximum security, control and European data sovereignty for humanoid robotic systems. All components – from robot control to data processing – are designed for secure industrial applications.
“We did not want to develop a humanoid robot for a stage presentation. We wanted to build a system for real work,” says Ümit Bas, Founder and CEO of IONO Robotics. “The demand for humanoid support already exists today in many industries. That is exactly why we are building secure humanoid systems focused on productivity, safety and data sovereignty.”
In addition to WORKMATE, IONO Robotics develops its own platform technologies such as the “IonoSkin” sensor suit, modular sensor systems and AI infrastructure for industrial applications. The company focuses on humanoid robots that can integrate into existing working environments without requiring new infrastructure.
IONO Robotics is already working with industrial partners on pilot projects in Austria, Germany and Italy.
